At the time of the release of Metal Gear Solid 5, you are probably likely to feel a little excluded from the widespread enthusiasm that results. And for good reason: Metal Gear is not really what may be called an accessible series. And that's also what makes its charm. Logically, the saga remains to some players a hairy enigma, synonymous with complicated history of blah and long cutscenes. This is partly true. But summarize it this way also means missing out on many outstanding qualities of the work of Hideo Kojima and his studio. If you are tempted, just curious or even hostile towards Metal Gear, this folder is for you.
We are in 2015, and Metal Gear Solid is undeniably a cult series in the history of gaming. However, the reasons for this status may not be clear to everyone. At the time of writing, Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain is on sale for a few days and the game, as his publisher, presumably wants to find a wider audience than before (it should succeed in making, as we have explained in our test). For us it was therefore appropriate to move some explanation - to the extent possible - on the scale of MGS phenomenon, the reasons that make this a saga license uncommon.
METAL GEAR SOLID, EPISODE FOUNDER
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake EaterIl is not really necessary to go in depth about this game already so debated, but it is difficult to ignore his role in the elevation of the license. It is indeed with Metal Gear Solid on PlayStation in 1998, the series of Hideo Kojima has truly changed dimensions. And if we use the term "change", it is because the license already existed. Metal Gear (1987 MSX2) and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake (1990, MSX2) are in fact precursors of the saga. These are the first two adventures of a young Solid Snake, fresh rookie FOXHOUND special unit sent undercover into the fortress of Outer Heaven United States, Africa and Zanzibar, Asia, for counter the nuclear threat of Metal Gear bipedal tank. The ingredients of future success are already there. Kojima is bold enough to ask the player to avoid enemies and not to confront them - that, originally, because of some technical constraints. The scenario is already far more than the competition, especially for a non-RPG title. And Snake is even faces two teams charismatic boss with very special abilities; One of the trademarks of the following episodes.

Metal Gear SolidCependant, neither of these titles out on technically limited and rather mixed media sales figures, have reached the fame of the first Metal Gear Solid. On an all-powerful PlayStation, both in technical and commercial terms, Hideo Kojima and his studio realized as a founder, marking an entire generation to the rank of worship title. His film grammar, plot its exceptionally thorough, neat, catchy and panting, finds its gameplay, its terribly charismatic characters, its emotional moments, its hidden details, mix in a unique cocktail for the time. But at the same time, Hideo Kojima poses with this mythical episode the basis of his saga. These elements will be found to varying degrees in all the episodes of Meal Gear Solid.
